Who Lives in a Pineapple Under …

August 9, 2016 By admin

I’ve got some really exciting news to share!  SpongeBob SquarePants has invited my daughter and I to visit him and see his new villa at the newly opened five-star Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. We can’t wait to see him and check out The Pineapple villa.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana Unveils Luxe Pineapple Villa

We can’t wait to visit Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana and see SpongeBob’s new villa.

This is really big news for family travelers as its Nickelodeon’s first-ever international property, built by Karisma Hotels & Resorts. The signature dwelling at Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana is The Pineapple, the only such villa in the world.  This 2-bedroom/3-bath playful presidential suite is a one-of-a-kind experience that allows guests to step inside SpongeBob’s world – the décor is Bikini Bottom-inspired – think pineapple exterior, porthole shaped window and swinging chairs. With 2,292 square feet of incredible indoor and outdoor living areas, including a garden, patio, signature infinity pool, and private butlers to take care of each and every need (think moonlight beach dinner!), guests will be pampered at every turn.

My Favorite Back-to-School …

August 2, 2016 By admin

Tis the season for back-to-school shopping so I’m here to share some of my favorite picks. These items are perfect for back-to-school supplies but can also be used on while vacationing (win, win) so be sure to stock up.

My Favorite Back-to-School Supplies for Globetrotting Kids

My Favorite Back-to-School Supplies for Globetrotting Kids

DIY Patch Designs – Kids love to personalize their items and when I saw these colorful stick-on-patches from Easy Peasy Patches, I knew my daughter would love them. Kids can use them on clothes, hats, backpacks, school supplies, water bottles, lockers and really anything they want to customize since they are dishwasher and washing machine safe. They come in various shapes and designs and you can even go old school and use them to cover ripped knees.

Keep Valuables Safe at School – As kids start to bring more valuable items to school like phones and tablets, its always a good idea to keep them safe while unattended. Master Lock has some easy-to-use and affordable options for kids of all ages. Younger kids will love these colorful combination locks for backpacks while older kids can use a portable laptop safe on travels or in their dorms. These items are also handy when traveling or visiting water parks.

My Favorite Back-to-School Supplies for Globetrotting Kids - Back-to-School Snack Ideas

My Favorite Back-to-School Supplies for Globetrotting Kids – Back-to-School Snack Ideas

Tasty Snacks – For weekday lunch boxes or a road trip snack stash, tasty snacks are a must-have. I hate sticky fingers so I try to serve snacks that are as mess-free as possible like pretzels, snack bars, nuts, fruit (dried or whole), etc. Individually wrapped snacks and pouches are especially great for travel and classroom snacks – try brands like Ella’s Kitchen, GoGo Squeez and Earth’s Best (their new frozen fruit cups thaw in lunch boxes!) for young kids. Some of my go-to ideas for healthy options include Good Health Snacks (think veggie straws, pretzels and chips), fruit-kebabs (made with straws not skewers), yogurt and most anything from Trader Joe’s snack aisle (especially seaweed, tortilla chips, crackers, nuts and dried fruit). For more substantial snacks (think after school or traveling), protein bars like Cliff, Luna or Luckybars (especially created for picky eaters) and New Zealand Jerky are all easy-to-pack options.

Personalized labels are great for back-to-school and traveling. Globetrotting Mommy

Personalized labels are great for back-to-school supplies and traveling.

Must Have Labels – Between classes, pick-ups, after-school activities, field trips and vacations, kids have a lot of opportunities to lose their belongings. If you don’t have any more camp labels left, now is the time to stock up for fall. I love Mabel’s Labels because they are indestructible, stylish and super easy to use. This year they’ve got some new designs like zombies and emojis plus a customizable keepsake school memory book.

Bento style lunch boxes are great for school and travel. Bentology, back-to-school, nalgene, globetrotting mommy

Bento style lunch boxes are great for school and travel.

Bento Style Lunch Boxes – Kids are very particular about their meals and if you’ve got a picky eater, a Bento Box lunch with separated compartments is sure to please. I love the adorable Bentology Bento Lunch Kit that come with an insulated bag, large outer container, five bento box containers and a fork and spoon set. The slim exterior bag has pockets and a secret side bottle holder. Since my daughter complained last year because her water was inside her lunch box (making it hard to get out for snack time…) this will be a sure winner. A nice option for traveling or larger lunches is the Lunchbox Buddy from Nalgene featuring a soft Neoprene sleeve that folds around the hard case lunch box. An ice pack can be used to create separate sized compartments for food items and drinks making it very versatile. Best of all, the box top doubles as a plate so kids have a clean place to eat. I like that both of these options feature plastic outer containers which are easy to clean and quick to dry for every day use.

Leak Proof Water Bottles – School kids need water all the time (think school, activities, field trips, etc.) and one big requirement for me is a leak-proof bottle because there is nothing worse than cleaning out a soggy backpack or purse. Some of my favorites include Contigo’s Addison, Nalgene’s On The Fly, and the rectangular Drink in the Box.

Yoobi's colorful back-to-school supplies are perfect for home, school and travels. Globetrotting Mommy, Back-to-school

Yoobi’s colorful back-to-school supplies are perfect for home, school and travels.

Fun School Supplies – My daughter’s school sends around a list of back-to-school supplies every student needs to bring in on the first day for the class to share throughout the year. When they don’t specify a brand, I love sending in colorful supplies like Yoobi. With every purchase, Yoobi donates school supplies to a local U.S. classroom in need, which is really a win. The playful designs and awesome accessories are so fun and I especially love Yoobi x i am OTHER journals (presented by Pharrell Williams) which are the perfect size for school or vacation.

WallPops Maps are a favporite for Back-to-School shopping.

WallPops Maps are a favporite for Back-to-School shopping.

Removable Wall Decor – Since kids love maps, I recently added this dry erase Wallpops! Kids USA Map to my daughter’s room. She loves to point out the fun places she’s visited like Charleston, Disney World, Boston, etc. and its a great way for her to learn the states (and Capitals). I also love these dry erase calendar message boards and this cute notepad calendar which are great for students of all ages, especially teens heading off to college.

Have you done your back-to-school shopping yet? I’m starting mine this week…

Great Vacation Books for Kids …

July 26, 2016 By admin

If you think summer vacation reading is just for grown ups, think again!  Help kids keep up their reading skills over summer (and sneak in some learning) with these easy-to-pack books for kids…

Great Vacation Books for Kids. Globetrotting Mommy.

Great Vacation Books for Kids.

5 Great Vacation Books for kids…

50 Things You Should Know About American Presidents – Elementary school age kids are fascinated with history and this book gives a great overview of the last 50 United States Presidents. I love how each section of this colorful book features a different president along with interesting fast facts, maps, timelines and historical tidbits. If your summer travels bring you to Washington, DC, be sure to bring this one along.

Unofficial Minecraft Lab for Kids – Minecraft is all the rage and this book is a great option for hands-on family friendly projects that will sneak in some educational STEM learning along the way. The book uses the game’s four modes (survival, creative, adventure and spectator) to guide families through different quests (like scavenger hunts, circuit building, gardening, crafts and more) as they earn stickers and badges along the way. A lot of these activities can be done while traveling like the City Planning, Theme Park and Restaurant Research making this a great companion for summer travels.

Outside – A Guide to Discovering Nature – If your summer travels include a camping trip (far away or in the backyard), this kid-friendly text book will help you answer any and all questions about trees, flowers, rocks, beaches, animals, rainbows, stars and basically anything else that lives outdoors. The illustrations are gorgeous and kids will love trying all the interactive activities while they learn about science, astronomy and more. This book will be a great resource for kids of all ages making it a great gift for inquisitive kids.

Journey Around the World – This Discovery with Playmobil book is a kid friendly travel journal like you’ve never seen. Using Playmobil toys and characters, the book showcases more than 30 countries around the world using creative photographs and a pull-out map of the world. Kids will learn about different cultures through easy-to-digest travel stories that weave topics like sports, history, cuisine and pop culture together. This is a great book for globetrotting kids as well as kids who want to learn more about different cultures.

Dad’s Book of Awesome Projects – This book is filled with 25 DIY projects for crafty families. The book features lots of photos, easy-to-follow directions and helpful tips for dads (or moms). Some activities are great for staycations while others are perfect for vacations and I love that the activities are divided into day projects, weekend projects and school break projects. Some of the things kids can make include Duct Tape wallets (perfect for travel), friendship bracelets and super hero capes, or more complicated terrariums, birdhouses, popsicle suspension bridges (think Golden Gate Bridge), or fruit crate scooters. If your kids need some crafty inspiration, this book is sure to please.

Vacation or Staycation: The …

July 12, 2016 By admin

If you’ve got a picky little fashionista in your house, read on for my picks for the Best Summer Clothes for Girls at home and on vacation.

Vacation or Staycation: The Best Summer Clothes for Girls.

Vacation or Staycation: The Best Summer Clothes for Girls.

When my daughter turned three, she started to choose her own outfits, shoes and accessories. Some matched and others didn’t but I loved seeing her creative juices flow as she would carefully coordinate each item. Over the last few years, I noticed that some items were worn over and over while others were just taken out on occasion or never at all. She’s gone through a dress phase, legging moment and gym look but the one consistent factor in her outfits is always comfort.

If you’re looking for some comfortable yet stylish (and affordable), summer clothes for girls, here are some of our favorites…

You know when you find something you really love and buy it in every color? Kidpik has simplified shopping with a new kidpik Basics website that sorts items by color and styles. We went to check out the colorful styles at the NYC launch party and they were so cute and stylish. Is your daughter just into purple this summer? Just click on purple and she can easily pick out her summer favorites. Did your daughter fall in love with an item in her kidpik subcription box? Here’s your chance to order more of that same item in a selection of colors. I love that the styles range from casual to dressy so you can mix and match the pieces and create several different looks. With prices starting at $6.50, you can buy an entire summer wardrobe and still have money left for a summer getaway.  Win, win!

Every NYC girl I know has a few of these cotton dresses in her closet. At just $5 each, you can let your daughter choose her favorite patterns without breaking the bank or worrying about getting messy. From classic patterns to quirky designs (shop in store for the best selections), these sleeveless jersey dresses are just perfect at home and on vacation. Dress them up with strappy sandals or down with flip flops and you’re ready for any amusement park, museum visit, alfresco lunch, summer BBQ or other adventure.

Sporty styles from Old Navy Active

If you haven’t already heard, kids of all ages are jumping on the “athleisure” bandwagon. These comfy gym inspired outfits are perfect choices for summer camp, yoga classes, sightseeing and beach walks. A lot of stores offer this type of clothing but I really love the affordable and colorful options from Old Navy Active. These styles are perfect for travel when kids want to be comfortable on a long plane or car ride and the matchy-matchy looks are super easy for kids to coordinate when packing on their own.

If you’re still looking for summer shoes, be sure to check out my choices for Best Summer Shoes for Kids story.

The Rockettes New York …

July 5, 2016 By admin

Seeing the Rockettes perform at Radio City Music Hall is one of my favorite New York City winter activities. Watching their synchronized dancing, fighting the Rock Center crowds and seeing the iconic Christmas tree just never gets old.

The Rockettes New York Spectacular – Awesome Summer Fun for Families

When my daughter saw a poster for The New York Spectacular, the Rockettes’ summer show, she immediately begged to go and I secretly cringed inside. My expectations were low but I figured it would be a fun outing to celebrate the end of the school year. I invited my mom to join us and planned a big NYC girl’s day to kick off summer.

The Rockettes New York Spectacular – Awesome Summer Fun for Families

It turns out, the New York Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes was indeed spectacular!  In fact, all three of us thought it was better than the Christmas show. I was pleasantly surprised to see how family friendly the story line was but what was most impressive were the amazing sets, cool technology, fun music and the choreographed dance moves that really made New York City come alive on stage.

The show follows two kids who accidentally get lost from their parents. The kids make their way around the city’s popular sights and attractions until the family is finally reunited at the end. Its a great sightseeing tour of NYC, as they visit the Empire State Building, Wall Street, Central Park, Times Square, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fashion Avenue and other popular sights.

Along the way, famous statues and artwork come alive as the kids search for clues to find their parents.

The Rockettes New York Spectacular – Alice in Wonderland statue from Central Park.

The show opens with Taylor Swifts’s “Welcome to New York” and closes with Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.” In between, the acts feature a mix of classic show tunes and modern music as well as an interactive scene that gets everyone dancing in the aisles. Some of my favorite musical scenes were the Rockettes tap dancing to “Singing in the Rain, dancing to “Money, Money,” surrounded by giant dollar signs and projections of stock-market tickers” and prancing around in a stunning red, white and black fashion show set to Madonna’s “Vogue.”

The Rockettes New York Spectacular – The Vogue fashion show was amazing.

Kids will have no trouble following along with the story line and they will especially love seeing Central Park’s Alice in Wonderland statue come alive and watching the famed New York Public Library lions Patience and Fortitude perform a rap number.  Its a little hokey but it all works.

And of course the grand finale stole the show…

If you want to escape the heat and see NYC from the comfort of Radio City Music Hall, head over to the New York Spectacular before it ends on August, 7, 2016. There is no intermission during the 90 minute show so plan snacks and bathroom breaks accordingly.

Have you seen a Rockettes show?  Tell me below in the comments.

If there’s one thing my daughter outgrows more than anything else, it would be shoes. If your kids need some new summer shoes, here are my suggestions for the Best Summer Shoes for Kids at home and away….

UNEEK by Keen Kids

Looking for some stylish shoes for your mini fashionista? These open air sneakers are sure to please. UNEEK shoes feature a rubber base with a body of colorful interlocking cords so they support like a sneaker but feel like a sandal. I love that they are super lightweight, easy to clean and look as cute with dresses as they do with shorts. The adjustable side tab and easy to tighten cord closure make these a great pick for kids of all ages.  Amusement parks, bike riding and long camp days? These are the perfect choice. Just throw them in the sink with soapy water to clean and they look brand new! They are available in little and big kid sizes as well as a grown up version which I’ve been sporting this summer (so comfy!).

If you’ve got kids who are always in the water (intentional or not) these Phibian sneaker sandals are a really great option for summer travels. Phibians feature a breathable sandal-like upper and an extra-grippy, non-slip bottom making them a sturdy option for active children. The velcro closure makes them easy for children of all ages and the stylish color pairings and super hero styles will definitely please young girls and boys. They go right in the washing machine or sink when dirty and they are quick to air dry making them a great option for camp or away. If your kids like to play in the rain, sprinkler park or mud or if your summer travels include a water park, these are a great choice.

Salt Water Sandals

For summer sightseeing trips or walks at home, these classic strappy sandals are a great option that can easily go from day to night. I love the bright colors and chunky sole options for younger kids and the strap and buckle closure which means little fingers can’t easily take these off.  Of course, the flip side to that means you will be helping your kids get these on and off…  I love that these sandals are waterproof and easy to clean making them a great option for beach vacations. They are also available in adult sizes so they whole family can coordinate. Yes, I have a pair of these too…

Butler Overboots

These adorable light-weight rubber boots easily slip over shoes making them a perfect choice for traveling. Nothing spoils a vacation more than getting caught in a rainstorm (hello wet shoes and socks!) so wearing these galoshes will keep everyone happy.  They are easy for kids to put on and take off (think velcro closure and accordion-style opening) and families will save a lot of time not having to stop and switch back and forth from shoes to traditional rain boots. I especially love the bring colors that will definitely cheer up the most dreary day especially when kids are allowed to puddle jump. If your vacation forecast looks iffy, be sure to take these along.

What shoes do your kids love to wear when traveling?  Tell me below in the comments.

A Disney World vacation is one of the most magical trips you’ll ever experience. From babies and toddlers to tweens and adults, everyone will find something they adore at Walt Disney World. If you’re heading to the happiest place on earth, here are my suggestions for the 11 Best Things to do at Disney World…

11 Best Things to do at Walt Disney World, Disney, Orlando, Disney with kids

11 Best Things to do at Walt Disney World

1. Book FastPass+ in advance.  Do your research in advance and be sure to plan your three daily FastPass+ selections as early as possible (60 days out if you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort or 30 days with a ticket or pass). Once there, remember to add more (with the app or at a kiosk) after you’ve used all three. I highly recommend advance booking for Anna and Elsa at Princess Fairytale Hall, Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train, Peter Pan, Test Track and any thrill rides you want to ride.

4. Interact with your favorite characters.  If you don’t have time for a character meal, you can still meet the characters around the parks and at various meet and greet locations. You’ll find all the Disney classic favorites (think Mickey and Pals, Mary Poppins, Star Wars characters, Disney Princesses, Disney Junior cast members and more). Be sure to ask or check the daily schedule for details.

5. Ask for a magic photo. If you’re booking the Disney Memory Maker (which I highly recommend), be sure to ask for some magical shots and videos. Depending on the backdrop, the Disney PhotoPass Photographers will insert Disney characters and other fun surprises into the pictures.

6. Dine in a castle. Guests of all ages will be impressed with the gorgeous castle interiors at Walt Disney World. If you can’t get into the famed Cinderella’s Royal Table, the Be Our Guest Restaurant at Belle’s Castle and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot’s Norway are both great options.

7. Catch a daytime parade or dance party. You won’t want to miss any of the colorful daytime parades and dance parties including the Festival of Fantasy Parade (at 3pm daily) and Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party (twice daily). Be sure to grab a viewing spot (at least 20 minutes in advance) and have a snack while you wait.

8. Stay up late for the electrical parade, fireworks and shows. Chances are your kids will be staying up later than they do at home so try to keep them up at least one night for the famed Main Street Electrical parade, Electrical Water Pageant, signature shows like Fantasmic! or IllumiNations, Wishes fireworks and other evening shows.

9. Trade pins. Buy some pins in advance and let your kids trade with cast members or other collectors. This is a great way for little kids to show test their independence and bargaining skills. My daughter loved seeing all the different pins and was especially excited about the secret pins that were pinned backwards.

10. Come early for the Magic Kingdom opening ceremonies. If you’re traveling with young kids, chances are you’ll be up early. If you can arrive 30-60 minutes before Magic Kingdom’s opening, you will see an adorable Magic Kingdom Welcome Show with all your favorite Disney characters.

11. Wear your ears! For the full Walt Disney World experience buy or bring your favorite set of mouse ears. From the monogrammed classic hat to the glitzy character inspired headbands, I could not believe my eyes when I saw all the fun ears so be sure to grab a pair or two.

June 1, 2016 By admin

Visiting Hershey, Pennsylvania with kids is one of my favorite family vacation recommendations.  Chocolate lovers of all ages will find plenty to love about a Hershey vacation from the famed Hersheypark amusement park to Chocolate World as well as a zoo, musical shows, butterfly garden, trolly tours, museums, water attractions and so much more.

Fairy Tales’ Summer Hair …

May 24, 2016 By admin

Summer is around the corner (finally!) and unlike bald babies who can safely hide behind sun shields and stroller netting, the big kids will be running wild in the great outdoors. Unless you’re vacationing in a bubble this summer, here’s the scoop on some must-have hair and skin essentials from Fairy Tales.

Rosemary Repel because lice are not nice.

Upon returning to school after Spring Break, I got a very frightening email…”someone in your daughter’s class was sent home…” you know the rest.  After the initial panic subsided, I told my daughter we’d be braiding her long hair for the near future and using a spray to keep the potential bugs away. After trying a few products (eww, that smells gross, etc.), we were both happy to discover Rosemary Repel made with organic herbs of rosemary, citronella, lavender, and tea tree oil. It smells great, helps detangle and keeps lice away so we’ve added it to our daily routine. For added prevention, try the Rosemary Repel shampoo and conditioner.

Escape the bug bites with Bug Bandit.

Mosquito bites are a rite of passage for summer but with the Zica virus on the rise, kids and adults should be more and more cautious about bugs at home and away. Fairy Tales’ Bug Bandit is a healthy, DEET-free spray that smells great and keeps bugs at bay while moisturizing skin. Bring this on your next camping adventure, Caribbean retreat or visit to grandma’s house and remember to reapply after swimming.

Messy hair, don’t care. Tangle Tamers to the rescue.

If my daughter was in charge of maintaining her long wavy locks, she would happily ignore the knots and wear it loose every day. Since its my job (lucky me!), I am all about making it as pain free and easy as possible for both of us. Over the years, we’ve tried many shampoos, conditioners, detangling spray, satin pillows and knot-reducing hairstyles and they all help to some degree. Fairy Tales’ Super Charge Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner are great for managing long manes and they smell amazing too. The Static Free Detangling Spray really made a big difference with combing out messy knots and I love that the all natural ingredients help strengthen the hair.

Sun and surf hair essentials.

Summer means pool and beach time which leads to dry and chemical damaged hair so Fairy Tales created an entire line of Sun & Swim products to keep hair healthy and hydrated.  The Lifeguard Clarifying Shampoo, Lemon-Aid Conditioner and CoCo Cabana After-Sun Spray work together to keep hair soft and shiny after a day of fun in the sun. They smell delicious (citrus, pineapple, banana and coconut!) and are also safe color treated hair. If your kids are heading to sleep away camp, these are a must.

Special thanks to Momtrends and Fairy Tales for inviting me to the Mix & Mingle cocktail party last week to try out the new Fairy Tales products and test my bartending skills. It was so fun mingling, taking in the rooftop NYC views and making colorful cocktails featuring some of the same natural ingredients that are used in their hair care products.  If you’re looking for a fun and fruity summer cocktail, this Rapunzel Red Ringer, inspired by Fairy Tales’ Rosemary Repel, was my favorite!
