Hosting an Around the World Party or just want your kiddos to try some new flavors and foods?  It’s Fun Food Friday and these adorable foodie flag plates are sure to please. They look great and some are so easy the kids can make them on their own. Try sneaking in a few geography and trivia questions while they’re nibbling. They’ll never notice.

This All-American Flag made of hot dogs, ketchup, and mustard is great for a backyard barbecue or kid’s birthday party.

Gulliver’s Gate NYC: a …

June 9, 2017 By admin

The latest NYC tourist attraction has arrived and it is definitely worth checking out with or without the kids.  Gulliver’s Gate is a “mini-world” exhibit in Times Square where families can wander from city to city, exploring the whole wide world in one trip. We checked it out at the grand opening party and I especially loved looking at all the mini NYC sights and landmarks. Just look at all the tiny details in this amazing downtown scene…

Such amazing details in the mini downtown NYC at Gulliver’s Gate.

We explored the hundreds of built-to-scale scenes from Europe, Asia, Latin America, Russia, New England, the Middle East and Washington DC, as well many other regions around the globe. My daughter especially enjoyed Gulliver’s Gate’s interactive aspects, including moving model trains and cars, as well as ships that sail, bridges that open and close, characters that move about and balloons that float through the air. Kids are given special keys to unlock some of the moving parts and this really helps to keep them focused on each exhibit.

Since we were just in London, my daughter loved naming all the London landmarks and watching the tiny queen come in and out of Buckingham Palace.  Can you spot her below?

There are so many famous landmarks like the Pyramids, the Colosseum, the Louvre, the Panama Canal, Big Ben, and more as well as scenes of locals all over the world. From playgrounds and concert halls to airports and subway stations, you can easily spend hours exploring around.

I personally loved the crazy attention to detail in all the exhibits as well as the cheeky adult finds like the Beatles crossing Abbey Road in London and the Obamas waving from the White House.

If you’re looking for a fun keepsake, there is a full-body scanner and 3-D printer that allows visitors to make miniature versions of themselves to take home or you can opt to have your mini model live as a “model citizen” of Gulliver’s Gate. Tres cool.

What an awesome way to show kids the world’s landmarks and teach a little geography along the way. Visiting information and pricing can be found here.

Around the World in NYC this …

If you’ll be in New York City this Sunday, August 3, head over to Union Square for some free globetrotting fun at the IYF Culture Exhibition. We checked it out last weekend and really loved all the amazing dance performances from around the world (India, South Africa, Jamaica, Russia, Korea and more…) and multi-cultural exhibits.

Booths were set up on the periphery with toys, games and dolls, costumes galore, and cultural artifacts from around the world. There were also arts and crafts activities, face painting, photo ops and various multi-cultural demonstrations. My 4-year old daughter especially enjoyed learning about Chinese Checkers (my childhood fave), playing with musical instruments and the life size llama. I sorta wanted to take him home…

If you’ll be in the area between 10 am and 5 pm, check it out. The nearby Evelyn’s Playground is always a fun pit stop and there are tons of great kid-friendly spots to grab lunch in the hood like Clarke’s Standard, Coffee Shop and Max Brenner.

Checking out Disney’s …

On a recent trip to the Disney store (proceed with caution!) I spotted the cutest collection of internationally dressed dolls.  If you’re drawn to vibrant colors and lots of cuteness, you’re going to love Disney’s “It’s a Small World Collection,” seven new dolls inspired by the original Fantasyland attraction and one of the best-known Disney tunes.  I can remember “It’s a Small World” being one of my favorite Walt Disney World rides when I was young and that song brings those memories right back.

The 16″ dolls feature traditional folk costumes, shoes and hairstyles and they are just adorable.  Each of the seven dolls (Hawaii, Holland, Kenya, Japan, France, India and England) sings in her native language and English.  Best of all, the recordings are made by children from around the world for authenticity.  I love how kids can learn about other cultures, fashions, languages and traditions through play and these dolls are great starters for all sorts of inspiring conversations.

Not into dolls? The youngest globetrotting boys and girls will enjoy the “It’s a Small World” Storybook and CD set.

These would be great birthday, holiday or baby shower gifts.  I also love the idea of using the dolls as part of your nursery or playroom decor.

Did babyproofing your living room mean getting rid of your coffee table?  Mine did.

If you’ve got a little one running around like a mad man, here are some fun travel-inspired poufs that can add extra seating and double as a table (just put a tray on top but don’t bring out the wine glasses until after bedtime)…

Traveling First Class? Moroccan Poufs have stood the test of time and this tres chic version from Serena and Lily comes in an array of grown-up and kiddie colors (bronze, silver, white, tan, turquoise, lime and pink!).  These are a great option for living room or nursery.  You can definitely pass this one down to the next generation (unless someone gets hold of the Sharpies…)

Traveling Coach? This vintage travel inspired Sam Moore Ottoman would be super cute in a travel themed nursery or playroom.

Back-to-School Shopping: …

September 11, 2013 By admin

Does your little girl insist on wearing a dress every day?  Does the dress need to be twirly?  Can it only be pink, red or cotton candy blue?  Yes, yes, and yes.  Welcome to my world!!!

It’s back-to-school shopping time so I thought I’d round up some globally inspired girly girl dresses that will please moms and daughters alike!

Globetrotting Mommy - Back to School Shopping - Masala Baby India Rose

Globetrotting Mommy – Back to School Shopping – Masala Baby India Rose

These gorgeous dresses from Masala Baby’s India Rose collection feature comfortable styles and beautiful Indian prints.  They are just right with tights for fall, with leggings for winter and with sandals for spring and summer. And when they outgrow them as a dress, they will be just as perfect as a tunic top.  A great choice for your budding fashionista.

And, if her little sister wants to match, check out the Kolam Coral or Diamond Net Pink sets from the Mini Masala Twosies collection.  Matchy matchy is so very cute on the under 10-set.

Have you finished all your back-to-school shopping???
