Top 10 Must-Have Items for …

June 9, 2020 By admin

Welcome back from the 2020 Corona virus hiatus! Now that summer travel is becoming more of a reality, I think we are all looking forward to some close to home family trips. While you dip your toes back into summer travel, be sure to check out these must-have items for summer travel.

Water Parks 101: Be sure to pack waterproof footwear, crocs, flip flops, waterproof shoes

1 – Waterproof Footwear – Summer footwear is important since slippery pavement and hot sand are never fun. For water parks, pools, lakes and beaches you’ll want to pack comfy, waterproof footwear for the whole family. For water parks, swim socks and rubber-soled beach shoes are great because kids can wear them all day.  For rocky beaches and lakes, be sure to get a waterproof shoe with anti-slip sole, or Crocs. For strolling around town, Salt Water Sandals, Birkenstocks and Tevas will provide more support than flip flops.

2 – Waterproof Phone Case or Dry Bag – Water and cell phones are never a good combination so invest in a waterproof phone case, wearable pouch or dry bag. If you want really great underwater shots and movies, bring a GoPro.

Water Parks 101: Master Lock SafeSpace portable safe is perfect to store small valuables.

Top 10 Must-Have Items for Summer Travel: Master Lock SafeSpace portable safe is perfect to store small valuables.

3 – Portable Safe – I’m a paranoid New Yorker who hates leaving anything valuable out of sight so I travel with a Master Lock SafeSpace® Portable Personal Safe.  With this portable safe, I can safely lock up my keys and money, secure it to a lounge chair or table, throw a towel on top and jump in the pool.

4 – Floats – For kids who haven’t fully mastered the art of swimming, be sure to pack a floatation device. I recommend the Stearns Kids Puddle Jumper Life Jacket Vest (one of the few coast guard approved devices) for toddlers or a backpack type device like the Water Gear Back Float 4-Color Split Back Float for older kids.

Water Parks 101: Don't forget to stay hydrated.

Top 10 Must-Have Items for Summer Travel. Don’t forget to label your water bottles.

5 – Water Bottle – Bring along a labeled water bottle for each family member so everyone stays hydrated and be sure to refill them with ice water throughout the day. My favorite leak-proof bottles include Camelbak, Contigo, and Nalgene.

6 – Skin Protection – Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Kids know the drill but packing some easy to use sunscreen sticks will make the process less painful. Don’t forget to bring sun protection lip balms as well.

Water Parks 101: Bring quick dry towels.

7 – Quick Dry Towels – Some water parks and pools provide towels so be sure to find out before you go. If you need to bring your own, try a lightweight microfiber towel.

8 – Sun Protection Clothing – For summer travel, you’ll want to bring rash guards, sun hats or visors and a cover-up for each member of the family. Be sure to label your clothing with waterproof labels like Mabel’s Labels.

Water Parks 101: Don't forget the goggles.

Top 10 Must-Have Items for Summer Travel. Don’t forget the goggles.

9 – Goggles – If your kids have never been to a water park, be sure to bring along some goggles.  Some kids are sensitive to the splashing water so goggles help on rides and in the splash parks.

10 – Sunglasses – Last but certainly not least, be sure to bring along UV protection sunglasses for kids and adults.

Summer Shoes Kids Will Love …

May 8, 2019 By admin

Summer travels call for shoes kids will love wearing. So toss out those old smelly school sneakers and stock up on some cute and comfy summer shoes.

Summer Shoes Kids Will Love Wearing

"rose

For girls who love glitter:

My daughter loves dresses and I usually cringe when she pairs them with sneakers but no more! These rose gold Champion Glitter Keds for Kate Spade are the perfect dressy sneaker that works on the playground and at a fancy dinner. Best of all, they come with two sets of laces (regular and satin ribbon) so you can easily dress them up or down.

"<yoastmark

For girls who love rainbows:

Rainbows are so fun for girls of all ages and these adorable blue metallic platform espadrilles from Target’s Cat & Jack feature an elastic rainbow strap so they will match everything in her closet.

For sporty kids:

We are huge fan of Stride Rite’s made2play Phibian waterproof sneaker sandals and their new lighted version marks my daughter’s fourth pair! The easy-to-clean exterior, comfortable interior and velcro closure make them an easy option for every day. These sneakers are lightweight and can go from sidewalk to sprinkler park.

Kids will love wearing Salt Water Sandals all summer long.

For kids who like classics:

Salt Water Sandals come in so many unisex styles (and colors) its no wonder they’ve got a cult following among kids and moms. For summer sightseeing trips or walks at home, these classic strappy sandals are a great option that can easily go from day to night. The chunky sole options are nice for younger kids and the strap and buckle closure means little fingers can’t easily take these off. These sandals are waterproof and easy to clean making them a great option for beach vacations and amusement park trips.

For trendsetters:

I’m a big fan of Birkenstocks for their ease and comfort so this year I bought my daughter matching metallic silver Gizah sandals.  I love how sturdy they are compared to flip-flops. And, most importantly, the slip-on style means my daughter can get out the door quickly.

Tricks and Tools Every Mom Can …

August 2, 2018 By admin

Disclosure: I received compensation from Bayer Consumer Health, makers of MiraLAX® to write this post. MiraLAX® is a laxative used to treat occasional constipation. All opinions are entirely my own. #ReLAXOnTheGo #CollectiveBias

Busy moms like me need to know what tricks and tools they can use to be their best selves at home and when they travel. Moms spend so much time to be sure kids have every article of clothing, snack, beverage and entertainment option at all times, we sometimes forget about our own needs.

Tricks and Tools Every Mom Can Use at Home and Away

Tricks and Tools Every Mom Can Use at Home and Away

So read on busy moms because today I’m sharing my favorite tips and tricks for feeling your best when traveling…

Tip 1 – Comfort is Key

Try on all your clothing before a trip to be sure everything fits comfortably, and try to choose outfits in the same color scheme so you can mix and match with ease. I always travel with a large pashmina scarf which I use as a blanket or pillow on the plane and for layering depending on the climate of my destination.

Tricks and Tools Every Mom Can Use at Home and Away

Photo Caption: Comfortable sandals or sneakers are a must for visiting amusement parks.

Tip 2 – Pack Shoes That Can Go the Extra Mile

A vacation is definitely not the time to break-in a new pair of shoes so don’t wait till the last minute to think about footwear. If you’re planning a trip with tons of walking (like Disney or NYC) pack a supportive sandal in a neutral shade or sneakers if that’s more your style. For winter trips, thick soled walking shoes and waterproof boots are a must.

Tricks and Tools Every Mom Can Use at Home and Away

Photo Caption: Target is a great spot to stock up on travel sized toiletries.

Tip 3 – Keep Toiletries to a Minimum

This may not work for every mom but I love to use all those travel-sized make-up and toiletry samples when I travel. It’s a fun way to try new products and it leaves room in my suitcase for souvenirs. If you’re loyal to a certain brand, try to buy the smallest sized item or transfer it to a small travel-sized container.

Tip 4 – Keep Your Stomach in Sync

For most moms, travel means eating and drinking much differently than we do at home.  At home, I’m careful to eat a variety of fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water but when I’m traveling, this isn’t always the case. Whether you’re indulging in extra servings of pasta, oversized steaks or dessert with every meal (no judgement here!) your stomach is bound to react to the changes. It can be hard enough to find a clean bathroom when you need to go so the last thing I want worry about on a trip is problems pooping. To find relief from occasional constipation, I head to Target and stock up on MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax before I travel. Find your nearest Target here.

The single-dose packets are so easy to throw in my purse and the unflavored powder easily mixes with any beverage, hot or cold (always use as directed).

MiraLAX® acts differently from stimulant laxatives — it works with the water in my body to hydrate, soften and unblock my system naturally versus stimulant laxative pills that stimulate the nerves in your colon. MiraLAX® doesn’t cause harsh side effects so I can keep up with my travels and foodie adventures without a worry. A true must-have for every trip.

Tip 5 – Safeguard Your Documents

When I travel, I always bring photo copies of our passports as well as our flight schedules and a list of important phone numbers. Just think how helpless you’d feel if you lost your phone and make sure to have all this information with you on every trip. Be sure to email these documents to yourself at an email you can access on the road (think gmail not work email).

April 17, 2018 By admin

My daughter and I love visiting NYC’s glamorous American Girl Place in Rockefeller Center so when they invited us to an exclusive WellieWishers™ from American Girl footwear launch, I knew we’d be in for a fun afternoon.

We loved the flower headbands and pink carpet photo-op as we made our way into the American Girl cafe.

Excited for the launch for WellieWishers™ from American Girl Shoes

There were lots of “ooohs” and “aahhs” from the girls (and moms too) as we saw the WellieWishers™ dolls on display with their coordinating shoes. The shoes are not sold in the American Girl store but can be purchased at KidsShoes.com and Nordstrom (coupon below!). Such a pretty display, right?

American Girl, Dolls, Wellie Wishers, Discount

In case you don’t already know, there are five characters in American Girl’s WellieWishers™ line including Willa, Kendall, Ashlyn, Emerson and Camille. As with all American Girl dolls, these little ladies have their own individual personalities and I love that the character shoe pairings reflect each of the doll’s styles. The shoe details include butterflies, flowers, seashells, glitter and more while the styles range from sandals and slides to sneakers and hi-tops. Check out some of the cuteness…

My daughter received a Willa doll and two pairs of WellieWishers™ shoes – a pair of silver butterfly sandals and a pair of pink slides with coordinating velcro patches. So exciting!

We all enjoyed tasty treats including the cafe’s signature tea sandwiches as we caught up with friends.

Vacation or Staycation: The …

June 28, 2016 By admin

If there’s one thing my daughter outgrows more than anything else, it would be shoes. If your kids need some new summer shoes, here are my suggestions for the Best Summer Shoes for Kids at home and away….

Vacation or Staycation: The Best Summer Shoes for Kids. Keen Kids UNEEK shoes are fashionable yet sturdy.

UNEEK by Keen Kids

Looking for some stylish shoes for your mini fashionista? These open air sneakers are sure to please. UNEEK shoes feature a rubber base with a body of colorful interlocking cords so they support like a sneaker but feel like a sandal. I love that they are super lightweight, easy to clean and look as cute with dresses as they do with shorts. The adjustable side tab and easy to tighten cord closure make these a great pick for kids of all ages.  Amusement parks, bike riding and long camp days? These are the perfect choice. Just throw them in the sink with soapy water to clean and they look brand new! They are available in little and big kid sizes as well as a grown up version which I’ve been sporting this summer (so comfy!).

Made2Play Phibian Sneaker Sandal by Stride Rite

If you’ve got kids who are always in the water (intentional or not) these Phibian sneaker sandals are a really great option for summer travels. Phibians feature a breathable sandal-like upper and an extra-grippy, non-slip bottom making them a sturdy option for active children. The velcro closure makes them easy for children of all ages and the stylish color pairings and super hero styles will definitely please young girls and boys. They go right in the washing machine or sink when dirty and they are quick to air dry making them a great option for camp or away. If your kids like to play in the rain, sprinkler park or mud or if your summer travels include a water park, these are a great choice.

For summer sightseeing trips or walks at home, these classic strappy sandals are a great option that can easily go from day to night. I love the bright colors and chunky sole options for younger kids and the strap and buckle closure which means little fingers can’t easily take these off.  Of course, the flip side to that means you will be helping your kids get these on and off…  I love that these sandals are waterproof and easy to clean making them a great option for beach vacations. They are also available in adult sizes so they whole family can coordinate. Yes, I have a pair of these too…

Vacation or Staycation: The Best Summer Shoes for Kids. Butler Overboots are perfect for rainy weather.

Butler Overboots

These adorable light-weight rubber boots easily slip over shoes making them a perfect choice for traveling. Nothing spoils a vacation more than getting caught in a rainstorm (hello wet shoes and socks!) so wearing these galoshes will keep everyone happy.  They are easy for kids to put on and take off (think velcro closure and accordion-style opening) and families will save a lot of time not having to stop and switch back and forth from shoes to traditional rain boots. I especially love the bring colors that will definitely cheer up the most dreary day especially when kids are allowed to puddle jump. If your vacation forecast looks iffy, be sure to take these along.

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes …

July 2, 2015 By admin

On an average day here in NYC, I walk between three and five miles a day and when I travel, that number is even higher. After breaking my foot last summer, I’m now all about wearing supportive shoes that look good too.

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far

Here are some of my favorite summer choices in the Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far category.

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far – Birkenstock

1) Birkenstocks have been in the NYC fashion scene for the last year or so and I’ve finally figured out why – they are the next best thing to walking around barefoot. Made in Germany since 1774, these chunky sandals come in a variety of styles and colors (including metallics and Mommy and Me styles!). They are super comfortable (molded footbeds ensure proper weight distribution and foot alignment) and casual, making them a great option for running to camp pick up or strolling around Europe.

Best Shoes for Traveling, Mom Shoes, Comfortable Shoes, Easy Spirit, Travel Shoes, Globetrotting Mommy

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far – Easy Spirit

2) Easy Spirit isn’t your mom’s shoe store anymore!  They’ve added some fashion forward styles to their comfort collection like espadrilles, gladiators, wedges and woven sandals and they are all super cute and comfortable. My favorites include the ultra lightweight Talini Flat sandals (on sale now!) featuring e360 gel cushioning. In addition to casual options, Easy Spirit also has great options for day-to-night and evening styles.

Best Shoes for Traveling, Mom Shoes, Comfortable Shoes, Naot, Travel Shoes, Globetrotting Mommy

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far – Naot

3) Israel is known for its rough terrain so its no surprise that Naot, the country’s famed footwear maker is on my list. Naot offers a variety of casual and more dressy looks that will work with flowy dresses, jeans and shorts. The footbeds feature a layer of sponge that helps the shoes mold to your feet making them super comfortable. The Madison (in metallic gold leather) is my favorite style for day-to-night and the front and back straps are both adjustable, guaranteeing a perfect fit.

Best Shoes for Traveling, Mom Shoes, Comfortable Shoes, Waldlaufer, Travel Shoes, Globetrotting Mommy

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far – Waldlaufer

4) If you’re planning a summer getaway where you’ll be doing a lot of strolling, Waldlaufer is a great option for stylish and well built footwear. I was recently introduced to this German footwear brand and I was really impressed with their handcrafted finishings and lightweight styles. They also feature removable footbeds in case you need personalized orthotics. The summer styles I like most are the Heliett, Hilena and Hadya (say that three times fast!).

Best Shoes for Traveling, Mom Shoes, Comfortable Shoes, Skechers, Travel Shoes, Globetrotting Mommy

Globetrotting Moms: Best Shoes for Traveling Near and Far – Skechers

5) If you’re taking a vacation where you’ll be walking non-stop (think Disney!) but don’t want to wear sneakers, Skechers’ GOwalk collection might be your new best friend. Available in a variety of slip-on styles and neutral and bright colors, these light weight shoes are like yoga pants for your feet. They do not offer the highest level of support but if you are looking for an affordable casual shoe that can go from stroller pushing to sightseeing, these are a great option.

What are your favorite summer shoes??

Spring fashions for …

October 22, 2013 By admin

You’ve heard of New York’s famed Fashion Week but did you know that there is a separate Fashion Week just for kids styles? Well, there is and I was lucky enough to check out some of the latest spring fashions hot off the runway at petitePARADE’s Kids Fashion Week.

It was my daughter’s first fashion show and it was super exciting. How cute does she look in her front row chair?

Globetrotting Mommy - petitePARADE

We checked out the Stride Rite Children’s Group’s show which paired shoes from Stride Rite, Sperry Top-Sider kids, Keds kids, Merrell Kids and Saucony kids with the hottest spring fashions from Nordstrom and other children’s fashion brands.

The kid-friendly looks were full of vibrant colors (think florals, neons and 50 shades of blues), metallics (strappy sandals with bright flowers, yes, please!) and comfy styles. I also loved the fun bathing suits from Sweet Lola and Floatimini and the oh so chic girls raincoats from Oil & Water which were separate collections and did not feature Stride Rite footwear. Whether you’re dreaming of a beach getaway or Paris in the springtime, here are some of my fave spring looks for globetrotting kids:
