Fin Fun Mermaid Tails for …

October 5, 2016 By admin

Does your daughter love to swim? Does she love to dress up? Does she dream of being a mermaid?  If you answered yes to any or all of those questions, you’ll love today’s topic…Fin Fun Mermaid Tails.

Does your daughter dream of being a mermaid?

My daughter’s mermaid obsession started years ago with a well worn Ariel costume and a Caribbean themed birthday party. On our Kalahari trip last year, the obsession continued with a mermaid swim lesson so when I met the Fin Fun Mermaid team this summer, I knew my daughter would love her very own mermaid tail.

With a wide range of colors, patterns and textures (glitter, rainbow and ombre oh my), there is a Fin Fun Mermaid tail sure to please everyone. Girls (and women) can choose from four limited edition designs (Clownfish and Blue Tang which remind me of Nemo and Dory and Maui Splash and Bail Breeze featuring colorful ombre designs) and the Mermaidens® collection which is available in a rainbow of ten colors and glittery Sparkle Costume Mermaid Tails.

Select your mermaid tail, add the company’s patented Fin Fun Monofin flipper and voila, your little mermaid comes to life. There are few better places to test-drive a mermaid tail then the Caribbean so we brought Fin Fun’s Waverlee’s Malibu Pink Mermaid Tail along on our recent trip to Nickelodeon Resort Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

It is little tricky getting into the tail and Monofin so little ones will definitely need some assistance. Secure feet inside the Monofin slots, pull the tail up and you’ve got a mermaid.  I highly recommend putting this on poolside because once the Monofin is on, there will be no walking. FYI, if you need to walk, the Monofin can easily be removed since the tail bottom features an open end.

The resort had a zero entry pool which made it perfect for my daughter to slide right in. Once she was comfortable kicking her tail around in a sitting position, we ventured deeper into the lazy river and my daughter excitedly swam around. It was so cute to see all the girls asking their parents if she was a real mermaid.

Mermaid tails are only recommended for children who are strong swimmers and young mermaids should definitely be supervised at all times. I loved having the mermaid tail as a prop for the adorable photo shoot we did with Caribephoto. How great are these photos they took?

Water parks are all the rage with junior travelers and the best indoor water parks are catering to adults as well. My family and I took the plunge and visited Kalahari Resort in the Poconos, PA and it really exceeded my expectations.  From the fun filled water park and fine dining to activities and spa services, here are my Top 10 Tips for Visiting Kalahari Resort in the Poconos, PA.

1) Splash in the Water Park –

You won’t want to miss the resort’s 220,000-square-foot indoor water park, the largest in Pennsylvania. Guests will find water coasters, slides and raft rides in all speeds and sizes as well as a basketball pool, lazy river, indoor/outdoor hot tub and more. 2) Try your pick of signature aqua lessons: Mermaid or FlowRider –

My daughter tried out the resort’s new mermaid lessons and loved learning how to swim in a mermaid tail. I decided to tackle the FlowRider where you grab a board and catch some indoor waves. I won’t tell you how many times I crashed into the side wall but it really was a fun experience.

3) Get lost in the arcade –

You can’t get into the water park without meandering through the gigantic arcade so trust me when I say you will spend a lot of time playing arcade games as well as bowling, playing mini golf, laser frenzy and other fun games. Be sure to agree on a spending plan in advance and save room in your luggage for the prizes.

How to host a Caribbean themed …

October 29, 2014 By admin

My daughter recently requested a Caribbean themed party with dolphins for her 5th birthday.

This would have been super easy if it was summer and if we had a pool (and a backyard!) but for a New York City party in the fall, it took a little creativity. Read on to see my tips for hosting a festive, fun and relatively easy Caribbean themed birthday party…

Part one – Create an Under the Sea look

1) Blow up a million (or two hundred) balloons in varying shades of blue and spread them on the floor and/or hang them from the ceiling. I found these tiny tiny hooks from Command that made hanging super easy. Add in some giant beach balls, pool floats, mermaid dolls and inflatable blue dolphins…

2) Decorate the walls with crepe paper streamers in varying shades of green to look like seaweed. I used glue dots to make it nice and easy. Hang a happy birthday banner or letters, add some balloons (giant floating pina colada? Yes, please!), drape raffia around the table, add colorful decorations and you’re set.

3) Make some adorable fish out of paper lanterns….I just bought matching paper for the fins and tails and traced out a pattern. Finish them with pom pom eyes and big red fish lips and hang with fishing wire. Too cute.

Part two – Add some fun activities

4) Photo booths are fun for kids and adults. Tape a border to the wall, hang some pom pom flowers and throw some fun props and picture frames into a big colorful tub and you’re all set.

5) My daughter is obsessed with Dolphins ever since we saw the Dolphin Tale 2 preview with The Moms. Move over donkey, we decided to play Pin the Tail on the Dolphin.

6) Have a face painter, balloon twister and/or magician on hand or get some adults to help with these activities. Temporary fish or mermaid tattoos are another easy option.

Part three – Time to chow down

7) We served goldfish crackers (of course), tropical fruit kebobs, and shell mac and cheese with hot dog octopuses (thanks Pinterest!). To drink we had pink lemonade, kiddie pina coladas, juices and water in fun palm tree and coconut cups with krazy straws.

8) For the cake, she wanted a crab on top which was a strange request but I was just happy she didn’t say lobster. I made a round blue and white cake with candy/pretzel palm trees, a brown sugar beach and blue candy ocean (sixlets, m&ms, Jelly Belly, and rock candy. Oh my). I made the crab out of red fondant and it was much easier than I expected. If you’ve ever handled Play Doh, you’ll have no worries here.

9) I made mini fish cupcakes for the kids because I didn’t want 14 kids screaming at me telling me which part of the cake they had to have. Is this just a NYC thing? Anyway, the cupcakes were a little time consuming because you need to sort the mini m&ms and make the different colored frosting but they were super cute.

Part four – Send them home

10) After two hours, your ears will be throbbing and everyone will be ready to go home. For a parting gift, we gave everyone these cute HEXBUG Aquabot fishies which fit in nicely with the theme and didn’t involve candy. That’s a win win in birthday party world. Some of my other ideas were kinetic sand and make your own dolphin out of clay kits.

And there you have it. Although this was a birthday party, I think these ideas could be tweaked for a cute Caribbean themed baby shower as well. For more fun party ideas, follow me on Pinterest.
