The 2016 Product of the Year award winners are backed by the votes of more than 40,000 consumers. These tried and true products represent categories such as paper products, pet food, beauty tools, eye care, household, laundry, food and beverages, car care and more.

In addition to attending the swanky Product of the Year awards dinner, I got a chance to personally test out these winning products. Drumroll please…here are some of my favorites that can be used during and after any vacation or staycation…

If you’re planning a pampering staycation, I highly recommend the Amopé Pedi Perfect™ Extra Coarse Foot File with Diamond Crystals which buffs away dry skin and left my feet feeling revitalized after a long, harsh winter. Its basically the same effect as taking a long walk on the beach minus the expensive airfare. For pampering lips, the Softlips® Cube will not disappoint. If your purse or carry-on bags are as full as mine, you’ll also appreciate the balm’s square container making it super easy to find.

As a busy mom, having time for coffee before school drop off is a rarity so I was excited for the Skinny Cow Creamy Iced Coffee. These delicious creamy beverages are great to keep in your fridge and they are also the perfect size to bring along in a road trip cooler bag!

Speaking of road trips, this year’s winners included some adult and kid pleasing snacks like Gold Emblem abound™ Unsalted Pistachio & Almond Blend and M&M’s® Crispy Chocolate Candies. Turtle Wax® DASH & GLASS is handy to keep you car windows clean on road trips too.

You always need extra batteries at home and away so I was glad to find the Energizer® EcoAdvanced™ batteries among the winning products.

We go through a lot of tissues in my house so the Kleenex® Perfect Fit* Facial Tissues was a crowd pleaser. The slim design also makes them easy to use when you travel.

To ward off those airplane germs on your next getaway, don’t forget to back the Emergen-Zzzz®.

The worst part about coming home from vacation is all the dirty laundry so I was super happy that Tide HE Turbo Clean™ Liquid Detergent, Tide PODS Plus Febreze and Downy Fresh Protect were among the winning products.

Somebody Come and Play! …

November 6, 2014 By admin

It was a cold and rainy day outside but when my daughter and I stepped into the “Somebody Come and Play” Sesame Street Exhibit at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, things suddenly turned warm and fuzzy. From life size characters like Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Elmo and Snuffleupagus to movies and memorabilia, this adorable exhibit showcases highlights from the show’s last 45 years with something to please children and adults alike.

If you live in NYC or if you’ll be passing through between now and January 31, 2015, its worth the trip, especially if you’ve got young children. My five-year old daughter ran around from section to section for a couple of hours, happily entertained.  There are numerous scripts, photos, story boards, original art and music scores and other memorabilia from the archives as well as interactive exhibits for children.

Kids can visit the Sesame Street steps (push a button and make Oscar pop out of his trash can!), watch show highlights, feel Muppet fur, and play in the art area featuring a gigantic chalk board. The day we went a special presentation of Follow That Bird was playing in the auditorium. If you visit on November 19, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland will be playing at 3pm and there are a number of seminars for adults.

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is located at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza and the hours are Monday and Thursday noon to 8 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday noon to 6 pm. The Lincoln Center’s central plaza is a great spot for kids to run around before or after. Just look for the fountains and have fun!

Fun and Free in Manhattan: …

October 10, 2014 By admin

New York City can be a super expensive place to visit but there is never a shortage of free family friendly activities and attractions if you’re in the know. Today I’m showcasing the High Line in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood.

Fun and Free in Manhattan: Explore the High Line in NYC

One of the best places for kids of all ages to take in New York City, the High Line is a public park built on an elevated freight rail line on New York City’s West Side.  It begins at Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District and runs up to West 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues.  There are several entrances and exits (some with elevators) so you can walk as much or as little as you’re up for.  As you stroll along, you’ll find interesting art exhibits, a variety of plants including perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees, and scenic resting spots. It’s also an amazing spots for taking photos so don’t forget your good camera!

If you don’t love walking through NYC’s busy streets with small children, you’ll love that there are no cars or bikes so kids can freely roam around. It can get very crowded on nice days so I suggest going first thing and then going for lunch (there plenty of options for lunch and snacks on the High Line and surrounding areas). If you’ve got more time, foodies of all ages will want to check out nearby Chelsea Market, fashionistas will love the Meatpacking district and art lovers will want to explore the many area’s art galleries.

If you’re around on Saturday, October 25, join Friends of the High Line for the fourth-annual, family friendly Haunted High Line Halloween celebration.  Come in costume and trick-or-treat with characters, make giant art creations and explore a haunted train tunnel.

Have a great weekend!
