7 A.M. Enfant Introduces …

February 12, 2015 By admin

Urban kids love to ride their scooters all year long (ok maybe not during blizzards) but that can be a real challenge when temps drop. If getting your kids to wear their gloves is a daily battle like it is with my daughter, you (and your kids) are going to love Kids WarMMuffs™ from 7 A.M. Enfant.

New Winter Must Have for Scooter Loving Kids from 7 A.M. Enfant

You see the cozy and stylish 7 A.M. Enfant Foot Muffs, car seat covers and stroller WarMuffs all over town but this winter, they’ve introduced Kids WarMMuffs™, seriously one of the best kiddie winter accessories I’ve ever seen.

Scooter, NYC, 7 A.M. Enfant, WarmMuffs, scooter mittens, kids scooters, family travel

New Winter Must Have for Scooter Loving Kids from 7 A.M. Enfant

Available in two sizes, these super insulated kid sized WarMMuffs™ feature a velcro closure that allows the muffs to stay on scooter (or bike) handlebars while allowing kids to hold the handlebars at the same time. My daughter has been using them this winter and they are a huge hit.  She loves how cozy they feel and I love that I don’t have to worry about any lost mittens. Win win! Her hands stay warm and cozy and she also thinks they make her go a little faster…

Thanks 7 A.M. Enfant for letting little and big kids get in on your stylish coziness this winter. Now if they would just design some cool parkas for moms…

I received a pair of Kids WarMMuffs™ for review purposes. As always, all opinions are mine. If you don’t want to miss a post, subscribe to Globetrotting Mommy for daily updates!

Girls Gone South Part 2: …

January 22, 2015 By admin

My mom, daughter and I visited Charleston for four days and we packed a lot into our multi-generational getaway. If you’re planning a trip to family friendly Charleston, read on to see my recommendations. As mentioned in Girls Gone South Part 1, we loved staying at the centrally located Embassy Suites Charleston hotel.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Family Travel, Multi-generational travel, Girls Gone South, Pineapple Fountain, Charleston with Kids, Things to do in Charleston with kids

Girls Gone South Part 2: Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina

Here is a recap from our trip and my family friendly recommendations:

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, Family Travel, Charleston with kids, Children's museums

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry

INDOOR FUN: The day we arrived was cold and rainy so our first stop was the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry which was a few blocks away from our hotel. Little kids really need some unscheduled time to run around on vacation and if you can’t be outdoors, a children’s museum is always a great option. The museum was large (yet uncrowded by New York standards for a rainy day) with several fun, interactive sections (a boat, a science area, a water area, an arts and crafts area, a castle, a mini-supermarket, etc.) to explore. If you ask my daughter, she will probably say this was her favorite part of our trip. Look for BOGO coupons in the visitor’s guide before you go.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Getting Around Town, Family Travel, Trolly, DASH, Charleston with kids, Charleston pedicab

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Getting Around Town

GETTING AROUND: We stopped by the nearby Charleston Visitors Center to get some maps and finalize our plans and I found the staff very friendly and welcoming which was a nice change from our typical NYC days. Charleston boasts a free downtown trolley service called DASH (Downtown Area Shuttle) which has several routes connecting to most of Charleston’s attractions. This is a great resource for traveling families since adults don’t need to deal with directions or parking and kids will love riding the trolly. Once you get your bearings, it is very easy to navigate and I was so surprised by the nice, patient drivers. Another fun way to get around (especially at night) is by pedi-cab. Just have the restaurant call you one and within minutes, your chariot (and warm blanket) will whisk you right up to your hotel’s front door. Now that’s what I call Southern hospitality!

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, South Carolina Aquarium, Family Travel, Aquarium, Charleston with Kids,

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: South Carolina Aquarium

AQUARIUM FUN: The next day was still cool so we headed to the South Carolina Aquarium. My daughter is obsessed with dolphins and sea creatures so this was a big hit. The exhibits were very well done and there were several interactive displays, touch tanks and play areas. The floor-to-ceiling fish tanks towered over my daughter who ran from window to window checking out the pretty fish, sharks, turtles and other animals. The Madagascar Journey area was especially fun as children got a passport to stamp as they explored the exhibit. The aquarium is relatively small and easy to navigate in an hour or two making it a great option for families with small kids. Be sure to check out the famed Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge views from the lookout decks.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Charleston Harbor Tours, boat cruise, family travel, Charleston with kids

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Charleston Harbor Tours

EXPLORE BY SEA: From there, it was a quick walk over to Charleston Harbor Tours where we boarded the Carolina Belle for a 90-minute narrated harbor tour. We sat in the windowed downstairs area because of the cold weather and there was plenty of room for my daughter to roam around. This is a great way to get your bearings as you sail by Charleston and famed attractions like Fort Sumter, USS Yorktown and the stately waterfront homes on the Battery. The sights are stunning but my daughter’s favorite part were several dolphin sightings along the way.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Palmetto Carriage Works, Family travel, Charleston with kids, Horse and Carriage, multigenerational travel

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Palmetto Carriage Works

EXPLORE BY LAND: The weather warmed up a bit the next day and we opted for a sightseeing tour with Palmetto Carriage Works. This horse and carriage tour kept us entertained as our driver pointed out historic sights and described the area’s different neighborhoods. We shared our carriage with another family and their young son and the one-hour tour was just long enough without boring the kids who especially enjoyed learning about the horses.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Explore by Foot, Charleston Shopping, Charleston with kids, City Market, Rainbow Row, Bourbon and Bowties, Family Travel

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Explore by Foot

EXPLORE BY FOOT: Charleston is a very easy place to explore by foot with several distinctive areas. We especially enjoyed strolling along the King Street shops, exploring around the City Market area (great for souvenirs) and checking out the Rainbow Row neighborhood. For a small city, Charleston has some amazing shopping with everything from small mom and pop stores, family friendly clothing stores, local art shops, jewelry stores and fancy shmancy boutiques. Kids will especially enjoy the many candy, cupcake and ice cream shops. My favorite finds were some Bourbon and Bowties bracelets, made by proud Southern hands!

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Waterfront Park, Pineapple Fountain, Charleston with kids, family travel, multigenerational travel

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Waterfront Park and Pineapple Fountain

CHECK OUR CHARLESTON’S FAMED PINEAPPLE FOUNTAIN: A trip to Charleston is not complete without a visit to the city’s famed Pineapple Fountain and I was so happy when the sunshine came out so we could make our way over to check it out.  Waterfront Park features several large family sized swings, grassy areas, scenic lookout points, waterfront paths and the gigantic Pineapple Fountain where tourists (and locals) are invited to wade. My daughter jumped right in and had a ball dancing around. If you like to take pictures on vacation, this is an awesome backdrop.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, Charleston with kids, family travel, multigenerational travel, historic Charleston, US history

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon

TAKE IN SOME HISTORY: The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon is a family friendly spot that showcases various aspects of Charleston history during the Colonial and Revolutionary eras. Children and adults will enjoy the Provost Dungeon where docents lead you through its eerie confines with entertaining tales of pirates and patriots. My daughter was a little spooked by the dungeon so we spent most of our time upstairs “signing” the Declaration of Independence but older children will love it.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Culinary Tours of Charleston, Foodie, food tours, eating in Charleston, SC, Family Travel, Multigenerational travel

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Culinary Tours of Charleston

SAMPLE A CULINARY TOUR: Since my mom is a big foodie, I booked us on a Culinary Tour of Charleston with Bulldog Tours.  While this 2.5 hour tour is not recommended for children under 12, my 5-year old daughter has taken foodie tours in NYC so I figured she’d be ok (I also had crayons and a coloring book just in case).  Our guide was super informative and the many shops and restaurants we stopped in were all very accommodating to our group.  This was a great way to sample some of the area’s famous flavors including: stone ground grits, Charleston Benne Wafers, locally made chocolates, southern pralines, sweet tea, collard greens, Lowcountry barbeque, spices, teas and more. We all had a great time and I highly recommend this if you’re a foodie family.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Joseph Manigault House, Historic Charleston, Family Travel, Multigenerational travel, Charleston with kids

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Joseph Manigault House

GO BACK IN TIME: On our last day we visited the Joseph Manigault House.  I never know how much history a five-year old can handle but I was impressed how my daughter listened carefully to the tour guide.  It was fun to see her little brain churning as she saw the old fashioned toilets and children’s toys and she was genuinely interested in how families lived way back when. If our trip was longer, I would have added in a visit to one of the area’s famed Plantations.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Charleston Museum, Historic Charleston, Family Travel, Multigenerational Travel, US Museums

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Charleston Museum

VISIT AMERICA’S FIRST MUSEUM: Our last stop was the Charleston Museum conveniently located across the street from our hotel. The museum, founded in 1773, is relatively large with a very wide mix of historic artifacts (think Revolutionary and Civil War armory and uniforms, ancient Egypt, Rome and Greek art, dinosaur tracks, slavery badges and more), interactive exhibits, life sized animals and skeletons (and a gigantic whale bone frame) and an engaging kids section. My daughter insisted we all dress up in the hoop dresses and I loved watching her prance around like it was 1800-something. If you’ve got children in elementary or middle school, this is definitely a great spot to visit.

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina, Dining in Charleston, Charleston Restaurants, Family Travel, southern food, Magnolias, Peninsula Grill, Virginia's on King, Fleet Landing, Dixie Supply Bakery & Cafe

Family Friendly Charleston, South Carolina: Dining in Charleston

EAT, EAT, EAT: Charleston has a wide range of restaurants offering everything from Southern fare and Lowcountry barbecue to high-end dining and dive-diners.  We sampled several family-friendly restaurants and I was impressed with their kids menus (featuring Hush Puppies and Charleston history word searches) and staff. Some of my favorites were Magnolias (Southern fare), Peninsula Grill (Fancy with must have Coconut Cake), Virginia’s on King (Southern comfort food), Fleet Landing (classic seafood favorites with a view), Fish (innovative, high end seafood) and Dixie Supply Bakery & Cafe (casual Southern fare for breakfast and lunch).

Want to see more? Check out this video:

NOTE: We visited in November. If you’re planning to visit during spring/summer be sure to check out the area’s family friendly beaches.

Bon voyage!

2014 Holiday Gift Guide Part …

December 12, 2014 By admin

Last week I featured my holiday gift guide for all the kids and parents on your list and today I’m back with some fun family friendly gift ideas! Stay tuned for my picks for the best holiday toys.

FOR THE REST OF THE FAMILY:

Holiday Gifts, Aunts, Cousins, Grandparents, Nieces, Nephews, presents, jewelry, calendar, games, chocolate, blanket, old navy, globetrotting mommy

Globetrotting Mommy’s 2014 Holiday Gift Guide

For jewelry loving aunts, these tres chic Jet Set Candy luggage tag necklaces are sure to please. Moms would love these too – hint, hint…

For the cousins, I think this colorful Novogratz-Designed “Family” Blanket from Old Navy is too cute. Pair it with some DVDs and movie snacks and you’ll be all set.

For grandparents who juggle a million appointments, what could be better than a personalized photo calendar?  I made this one from Shutterfly but there are so many great options out there. I love that you can add in family photos, birthdays and other special family dates.

For nieces and nephews – Kids love getting games for the holidays but imagine how many bonus points you’ll score for giving them a game with chocolate game pieces?  Yes, edible! Gamesformotion has taken some of the best family friendly games (Candy Land, Guess Who, Monopoly, Scrabble, and others) and added Belgium milk chocolate playing pieces! My daughter and I tried these first-hand and we both think these will be a win with the kids.

FAMILY FRIENDLY GIFTS:

Holiday Gifts, Family, Aunts, Cousins, Grandparents, Nieces, Nephews, presents, chocolate, globetrotting mommy, flowers, Teleflora, Trader Joe's, Cookie, Ice Cream

Globetrotting Mommy’s 2014 Holiday Gift Guide

For the whole family, I love the idea of a year-long subscription gift so the Jeni’s ice cream Pint Club is a great fit. The lucky recipient gets three pints of Jeni’s dreamy ice cream delivered four times a year. Sign me up!

For chocolate lovers – Small edible gifts are always a win around the holidays and Trader Joe’s has some really fun options. Their Chocolate Passport set and Dark Chocolate Covered Star Shortbread Cookies (and mini stars in mint) are my personal favorites.

Speaking of cookies, cookie decorating is always a fun family activity but if you’re too tired to bake, Walkers shortbread cookies come in festive shapes making them a tasty option. Grab some frosting in a tube and sprinkles and you’ve got a fun no-planning holiday playdate.

If you’re looking for a fun family gift that can be used year after year, I love the idea of sending flowers in a keepsake cookie jar. Teleflora’s Gingerbread Cookie Jar Bouquet is a festive arrangement in a hand-painted gingerbread-house cookie jar that also includes a recipe for Chocolate-Dipped Cookies.

Have a great weekend!

Toys that Travel: Crayola …

December 8, 2014 By admin

If you’re looking for a fun toy that will happily keep your kids entertained at home and away this holiday season, read on to learn about Crayola Virtual Design Pro (and enter to win your own!).

Crayola Virtual Design, Review, Giveaway, Toys, Creative, Fashion, Designer

Toys that Travel: Crayola Virtual Design Pro Review and Giveaway

We’re big Crayola fans here (remember our trip to the Crayola Experience?) and my daughter loves to dress up so I had a feeling the Crayola Virtual Design Pro-Fashion Set would keep her nicely entertained over Thanksgiving break. We tested it out at grandma’s house and it was a huge hit with everyone!

Crayola Virtual Design, Review, Giveaway, Toys, Creative, Fashion, Designer

Toys that Travel: Crayola Virtual Design Pro Review and Giveaway

I loved that all the tools (vibrant pencils and markers, stencils, design book and pencil sharpener) came in a sturdy, easy to transport case. Arts and crafts projects can sometimes get unwieldy but this design portfolio really kept the mess and chaos to a minimum. My daughter quickly got to work as a budding fashion designer while I downloaded the free My Virtual Fashion Show app.

Crayola Virtual Design, Review, Giveaway, Toys, Creative, Fashion, Designer

Toys that Travel: Crayola Virtual Design Pro Review and Giveaway

I love toys that let my daughter’s imagination run wild and this was a perfect example of that. She loved using the stars and stripes stencils to make a 4th of July outfit then she decorated a one-shoulder dress in orange and pink for New Year’s Eve. Although the book contains 20 templates, the options are really endless since you can download and print additional designs. Once the design is colored, you import it into the app via a photo and then the real fun begins.

Crayola Virtual Design, Review, Giveaway, Toys, Creative, Fashion, Designer

Toys that Travel: Crayola Virtual Design Pro Review and Giveaway

The app lets the kiddie (and adult) designers choose details like hair color and styles, skin tones, shoe options and accessories like glasses. The age recommendation is 6+ but my 5-year old had no trouble navigating her way through the different fashion options, backgrounds, etc. As soon as you’re done, your design comes to “life” in 3D walking down the runway. It was really amazing how lifelike the models and their outfits looked on the virtual runway and I was also happy to see that it didn’t matter if kids colored out of the lines.

Every new design gets stored in the app and you can customize your fashion shows and model choices.

Toys that Travel: Crayola Virtual Design Pro Review and Giveaway

Overall, I was really happy with this toy but I would have liked a way to design our own dress templates (hint, hint Crayola). This toy happily kept my daughter busy longer than usual (I think she enjoyed accessorizing the models as much as she enjoyed coloring her designs) and I had a lot of fun with it too. If you’ve got a budding fashionista on your holiday shopping list, this toy is a really great pick and a nice option for family bonding over the holidays.  And if you’ve got boys, check out the Crayola Virtual Design Pro-Cars Set which allows kids to customize their own car designs.

I’ve got three Crayola Virtual Design Pro-Fashion Sets and a $50 gift card to give away!

To enter please leave a blog post comment- Who do you know who would love this toy?

Holiday shopping is in full swing. If you’re not done yet, check out my holiday gift guide for all the kids and parents on your list! Stay tuned for upcoming gift guides for the rest of the family and my picks for the best holiday toys.

Globetrotting Mommy’s 2104 Holiday Gift Guide for Kids and Parents

FOR THE KIDDOS:

Globetrotting Mommy’s 2014 Holiday Gift Guide

For babes who have it all, the personalized books from I See Me are a great idea.  For babies, I especially love the durable board books and the personalized My Very Own Name book which comes with a stuffed lamb.

If you’re planning any road trips with little kids, the Curious George Complete Adventures Deluxe Book and CD Gift Set will keep them mesmerized for hours.

I love coin collecting and I just stocked up on the State Series Quarters Collector Map and National Park Quarter Archive Map for my daughter.  These work for kids of all ages and I love that the insides feature large maps of the US making it a great way to teach geography too.

Big kids who love to text will love RUUM’s texting gloves in solids and stripes. These stylish and warm gloves are labeled for kids 8-14 but they fit me fine so you might want a pair for yourself too since they’re just $4.75…

FOR PARENTS:

Globetrotting Mommy’s 2014 Holiday Gift Guide

For globetrotting moms dreaming of a winter getaway, the next best thing is a gift from Fake Bake. Book her an airbrush tanning appointment at a local salon or give her some self tanning lotions. The perfect way to beat those winter blues.

For new moms, these Tobago Scarves are oversized infinity scarfs (perfect for nursing) inspired by the colors and sights from the Caribbean island of Tobago. They’re super lightweight, easy to wash and pretty so can use them for years to come.

For dads, Lands’ End offers a great selection of cozy flannel pajamas in an array colorful plaids.  Since not all guys like PJ tops, I love that the pants and shirts are sold separately.

For the dad who wants to plan his next road trip, The New York Times 36 Hours: 150 Weekends in the USA & Canada is a great pick.

Have a great weekend!

Cute and Comfy Pajamas for …

October 3, 2014 By admin

I always pack my favorite pajamas when I travel so when I pack my daughter’s suitcase, I always make sure to bring her favorite comfy pajamas along too.

While my daughter still has a soft spot for princess nightgowns, she likes her pajamas a little more “grown up looking” now that she’s almost five (going on 15…). I sometimes miss seeing her in footsie pjs but I am really enjoying watching her try on new “big-girl” styles like these adorable yet modern Girl’s Side Patch Pajamas from Little Twig and Sparrow (deal alert: Little Twig and Sparrow discount code below).

Cute and Comfy Pajamas for Little Jetsetters

Made from Peruvian cotton, Little Twig and Sparrow’s pajamas are super soft yet made to last. The patch designs are fun for boys and girls and a refreshing change from the all the kiddie prints. They’re perfect for home or away and each pair comes in its own cotton travel bag so you won’t accidentally forget to pack the top or bottoms. How fun are these boy and girl designs? On some styles, the patches are made out of velour. Too cute!

Cute and Comfy Pajamas for Little Jetsetters

Whether your kids are lounging around the Jacuzzi in a tropical paradise or vegging on the sofa, these pajamas are sure to please. And by the way, while I wish I had a balcony Jacuzzi here in NYC, these pictures were taken on our recent Dominican Republic vacation. More on that to come…

Have a great weekend!

Personalized Kids Picks for …

August 28, 2014 By admin

Does anyone else have a kid starting Kindergarden next week (OMG!)?  I want to make sure that my daughter has an easy time keeping track of all her things in elementary school so I’ve rounded up some of my favorite personalized kids picks for back-to school.

Personalized Picks, Back-to-school, Backpack, Pencils, Notebooks, Back-to-school, Mabel's Labels, Garnet Hill, Paperwink, Frecklebox, family travel, great gifts

Personalized Kids Picks for Back-to-School and Traveling

Step one…label anything and everything with personalized Mabel’s Labels!  These are essential for back-to-school and traveling. When we accidentally left my daughter’s jacket on a tram in Stuart, Florida, I was able to track it down because it was labeled. True story. We’ve been using these sturdy and stylish Mabel’s Labels for the past three years and they really are indestructible. For Pre-K we had girly pink and purple cupcakes from the Ultimate Back-to-School Combo but for K we’re excited to test drive the new Stylish Scholars Combo pack in confetti dreamin’ polka dots. The Skinny-Minis are perfect for lunch containers, water bottles and gadgets, the Tag Mates work nicely on clothes and the waterproof Round Labels are great for shoes and towels.  The set also includes two Teeny Tags that can attach to zippers. Thanks Mabel’s Labels for keeping our goods safe!

Step two…get a personalized backpack and lunchbox. Since there will be a lot more students and fewer teachers in my daughter’s class this year, I thought a personalized backpack and lunchbox would make things a little easier for everyone. Since she’s just turning five, many of the regular sized backpacks were just too big and many of the small backpacks were too small. After some trials and tribulations, we agreed that a 15″ backpack would be just right and I was very happy when I found the rugged yet cute backpacks from Garnet Hill Kids. Their Backpack Jr. is the perfect size with two large compartments, a built in organizer, padded straps, loops for a lunch box and more. Best of all, it came with a free matching lunch pack (through September 9).  Win win!  I had both monogrammed and got a matching pencil case too since the lunch pack was free.

Step three…add in some personalized school supplies like notebooks and pencils.  Frecklebox has some fun personalized notebooks with glossy laminated covers.  These work great for travel journals too. Paperwink has the most adorable collection of personalized pencils I’ve ever seen. Traditionalists can choose their child’s name on their favorite color pencil (in 11 color options) but I love the cute “It’s a great day to be (your name here),” “Hooray for (your name here),” and “See (your name here ) write” options. Or create your own personalization up to 32 characters and spaces. They make personalized teacher pencils too which are great for holiday gifts. Save 20% off Paperwink through the end of August with the discount code “SCHOOLED.”

Step four…add in a personalized smock for art class.  At my daughter’s pre-K, smocks were provided but for her Kindergarden class its BYO. At home she’s fine in an apron or old T-shirt because I control the paint pouring but for school I wanted a waterproof smock with long sleeves that would also be long enough to protect her dresses. I didn’t realize what a tall order that was but once again, Etsy saved the day. I ordered this adorable Extra Long Kids Art Smock with long sleeves in primary chevron from Ladybuglayne with monograming. There are so many cute styles and patterns for babies and children (up to age 9) and best of all, the cotton laminate will be a breeze to clean.

Top 10 Must-Haves for a Beach …

August 19, 2014 By admin

We’re heading off on a tropical vacation later this month and I can’t wait. There’s a spa for me, shaded cabanas for my husband, a kids zone for my daughter and a white sand beach for all of us. If you haven’t had your fill of fun in the sun this summer, today I’m sharing my top 10 must haves for a beach getaway with kids…

1) Sunscreen is a must for grown-ups and kids and The Honest Co. makes a great family friendly version. If you’ve got a girly girl in your group, Glitter Tots’ Sparkle Screen is my daughter’s favorite. When she asks for more “skin glitter,” I’m always happy to oblige.

2) On those days when its chilly coming out of the ocean or pool, I recommend hooded towels for kids. Some of my favorites are from The Company Store, Pottery Barn Kids and Carters.

3) A cute bathing suit is a must have. For moms, Miraclesuit makes some a stylish options that don’t scream “mom.”  For fathers and sons who want to be matchy matchy, I am loving the Tom & Teddy line.

4) Hats and sunglasses for the whole family are a must. Flap Happy offers a great hat selection for babies and toddlers and I highly recommend their swim hat and floppy hats with the chin tie. Target also has a great selection of sun hats for the whole family.

5) Beach toys can be as simple as a plastic container or as complex as a fancy kite. You can’t go wrong with Melissa & Doug products and the Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Speck Seahorse Sand Ice Cream Set and Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Seaside Sidekicks Sand Baking Set are always popular with my daughter and her friends.

6) For those who haven’t fully mastered the art of swimming, bring along some accessories. For toddlers, I recommend taking along a Stearns Kids Puddle Jumper Life Jacket Vest (one of the few coast guard approved devices) while a backpack type floatation device like the Water Gear Back Float 4-Color Split Back Float is better for new swimmers who want to do more than just doggie paddle. Kickboards are also fun..

7) You’ll need some cute beach bags to carry all your stuff. For kids, I adore the Trunki PaddlePak waterproof backpacks that come in a variety of colors and sizes. They are the perfect size and kids will love the secret compartments and extras like a special tag to hang sunglasses. I also love this Stephen Joseph Mermaid Beach Tote above because the back is made of mesh so the sand stays at the beach. It comes with beach toys and is also available in a cute Shark version.

8) Picnics at the beach are great family fun but you want to be careful your food stays nice and cool. I took a PackIt Freezable Picnic Bag to the beach on a super hot day and it did not disappoint. You freeze it overnight and stays cool for up to 10 hours. The Picnic Bag is a great size for a small family but you could also use it for baby bottles/food, drinks and anything else you want to keep cool. They also make lunch bags, shopping bags, wine bags and more which are great for summer or if you live in a warm climate.

9) Cover ups are a must for the whole family. I love the cool cotton kurtas and dresses for kids and adults from Roberta Roller Rabbit. Rash guards are also great for keeping active kids protected when they’re swimming and building sand castles.

10) Nobody wants to bring sand home so don’t forget this trick… Put some baby powder in an old sock and the sand will magically disappear when you wipe the sock across your skin. You’re welcome.

I hope you enjoy your last few trips to the beach…
