Bratz Dolls Encourage Girls to …

September 1, 2015 By admin

One of the best times of my life was spent studying abroad in Rome during my junior year of college. I have such great memories of visiting the famed sights, eating tons of gelato (pizza too!) and living among the locals.  When I heard that Bratz was reintroducing a new doll collection featuring a group of five study abroad characters, I couldn’t wait to check them out with my daughter.

When I took Raya, the study abroad Mexico doll, out of her box, my five-year old daughter was immediately drawn to all her fun accessories. Raya comes with two trendy outfits that can be mixed and matched, jewelry, hair accessories, a tote bag, cactus and piñata key ring along with a roller board suitcase with stickers for kids to decorate.

Dolls have come a long way since I was a kid and I loved all the attention to details on the outfits as well as the great hair that doesn’t immediately get knotty. I also loved that these dolls will expose young girls to different cultures through play. I also hope these dolls will encourage young women to study overseas as study abroad is on the decline.

The Bratz Study Abroad collection features Raya and the following dolls (pictured above) who all come with two outfits, jewelry and suitcases:

Cloe is just back from China with a teapot and teacup, a ying yang purse, a fortune cookie key ring.

Jade came back from studying in Russia with nesting dolls and a fabergé egg key ring.

Sasha returned from Britain with Union Jack purse, teacup and scones and a bunny bodyguard key ring.

Yasmin is back from Brazil with colorful sunglasses and a pineapple key ring.

In addition to the new Study Abroad dolls, Bratz revamped their entire line with a new look and feel that embodies the interests, passions and personalities of the modern day girl. The core collections are available now at Target, Toys”R”Us and Walmart stores nationwide.

I think these would make a great back-to-school gift for any globetrotting girl.

Family Vacation Trends: Mexico’s Grand Velas Resorts Introduce Digital Detox Program

To encourage families to power down this year and spend quality time together, Mexico’s Grand Velas Resorts in Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit boast a Detox Concierge who will “cleanse” all electronics from the guest suite and replace them with classic board games.  They will also keep the family’s electronic gadgets (iPads, phones, laptops, etc.) locked away for safe keeping.  In exchange for trading-in their electronics, guests receive a bracelet that guarantees them access to a choice of activities including: bike tour, ecological tour, snorkeling and facials and massages!

Bye, bye email, hello relaxation! Move over juicing…massages and facials sound like my kind of cleanse.  If you’ve got a workaholic, Instagram addict or a texting-obsessed teen in your family, this would be a great option. And don’t worry, after earning four activities in four days, the detox is complete.

In addition to the detox activities, guests at both resorts can also enjoy complimentary activities like yoga, kayaking, beach picnics and campfire sessions. Both hotels feature luxury suite accommodations with all-inclusive meals, beverages and amenities making them a great option for a family getaway. Beautiful beaches await so visit Velas Resorts to power down reconnect on your next family getaway.

Set the mood with some cute decorations like the rainbow donkey piñata, fun fake moustaches and the sombrero centerpiece pictured above from Birthday Express Fiesta Collection.

Serve kid friendly snacks like chips and salsa, quesadillas and mini tacos. Have some fun margaritas for grown-ups and fruit smoothies for the kiddies.  Last but not least, don’t forget about dessert.  These rainbow pinata cookies are so cute and not that impossible to make.

Get ready for Día de los …

Today may be Halloween but why not enjoy some multicultural celebrations this weekend with Día de los Muertos also known as Day of the Dead.

Day of the Dead  cookies from Dean and Deluca:

Día de los Muertos, observed by many Latino cultures, occurs around the same time as Halloween and features many of the same traditions (think skulls, bright outfits, parades, sweets, etc.). During Day of the Dead, revelers celebrate friends and family members who have passed on by building altars and decorating them with colorful paper flowers, grinning skeletons and candles. It’s a festive  way for families to gather and welcome the souls of the dead on their annual visit home.

Here is a guide for some family friendly Día de los Muertos events around the world.  If you’re looking to host your own Día de los Muertos party at home, check out these amazing ideas from BRIT & CO.
